'For Yesterday Was Not Today' really captures my reflection on how photography and our self-perceptions have evolved in the era of social media. It embodies a longing for the past—a time when photography was more than just an art form. It was a candid mirror that reflected the simplicity and authenticity of daily life. In contrast, today’s photography often leans towards aesthetics and the curated versions of ourselves that we choose to present to the world.
Historically, the great photographers I admired captured everything. Whether unstaged or spontaneous, their images documented the essence of being, capturing both the mundane and the significant within ordinary moments. These photographs showed life as it was—unembellished and genuine, acting as a testament to the extraordinary times viewed through the lens of everyday occurrences.
This exhibition and book pay respect to the history of street photography, exploring how our cultural and individual perspectives on reality have shifted. My goal of this work challenges us to reconnect with photographic art, recognizing the overlooked beauty and complexity of normal life.
